Advanced Notice: Interesting excipients authoring in dm+d to come to an end
Further to feedback from dm+d users on the recent ‘Interesting’ Excipient Consultation which ran from 18 April 2022 to 17 June 2022; the dm+d Content/Editorial Committee - chaired by the Department of Health and Social Care - have approved the decision to end the authoring of the interesting excipient information from dm+d.
The timetable and exact details of this change will be communicated in due course through the weekly release notes for dm+d.

OPCS-4.10 update - change to ISN and data files release date
OPCS-4.10 was scheduled for approval by the Data Alliance Partnership Board (DAPB) in September followed by publication of the Information Standards Notice (ISN) and release of the final Summary of Core Changes from OPCS-4.9 to OPCS-4.10 and OPCS-4.10 data files at the start of October 2022. However, these dates have been altered and the ISN and data files will be published at the start of November 2022.
Implementation of OPCS-4.10 remains 1 April 2023.
The Consultation on the Draft Summary of Core Changes form OPCS-4.9 to OPCS-4.10 ended on 29 July 2022. Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the changes and send feedback. We have reviewed the feedback and made a number of changes to the draft changes as a result, and we are currently finalising the content of OPCS-4.10 and producing the data files.

NHS Digital is developing the next update to OPCS-4 (OPCS-4.10) for NHS implementation on 1 April 2023 as part of the three yearly release cycle.
The classification has significant capacity constraints, so a revision is required to address this issue and ensure the classification can continue to accommodate developments in clinical practice. NHS Digital has begun early planning and intends to conduct a more extensive user engagement exercise to ensure that this evolution addresses the medium-term needs of the health and care system in the UK.
The long-term future direction will be reconsidered as interoperability across the NHS increases and will reflect further engagement with international standards providers around the identification of a potential international replacement. It is expected that, in the longer term, there will be a need to move to a new procedure classification that can better take advantage of a context when clinical records are comprehensively and consistently populated with SNOMED CT coded data. Consideration of the strategic replacement will include consultation with the NHS.
The scope for the revision work is restricted to the medium-term revision to OPCS-4. We will publish further details on the expected plan and user engagement as this evolves.
In the meantime, our immediate priority is to deliver the OPCS-4.10 update.
Classifications Browser – ICD-10 Content
The latest development work on the classifications browser means the ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classification and clinical coding standards are now all available in a single online application.
Thank you to the members of the Classifications Browser User Group who dedicated their time, at short notice, to take part in the testing during July.
An updated release of the Classifications Browser is now available.
The main improvement is the inclusion of ICD-10 content to browse, search and link to the relevant ICD-10 clinical coding standards. Additional improvements for this release are:
- Improved indexing with the inclusion of lead terms and modifiers in the Volume I – Alphabetical Index tree
- Incorporation of content changes published in that are displayed as red notes in the eVersion.
Following release of ICD-10 in the Browser, the next phase of work will be to investigate the incorporation of a note taking facility.
SNOMED CT Implementation – User Research Survey
The SNOMED CT Implementation team have launched a short survey relating to a new project they are undertaking on value sets.
A common challenge reported to us is the inability to find and maintain the lists (or value sets) of SNOMED CT concepts required for health and care. Users may create these lists for the following reasons:
- analytics
- data entry
- decision support
- reporting
So, whether you currently create or use value sets or think they may help you implement SNOMED CT in the future, we want to hear from you.
The survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and there is an option to register your interest if you want to be considered as part of our user research panel.

NHS Digital becomes WHO Collaborating Centre
NHS Digital has been redesignated as the UK Collaborating Centre for the WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC) for a four-year period. This grants NHS Digital an important level of profile, authority and influence, as well as opportunities to collaborate in the WHO-FIC network. The network and its collaboration with other centres and international standards organisations is an important resource and will be vital for the UK as we implement ICD-11.
Delen has grown significantly since its launch in 2017, with a year-on-year increase in the number of page views and returning users.
As a key communication channel, it’s important that we continue to improve the design and curate content, so it remains relevant, up-to-date, and accessible to our users.
Following a significant redesign project, our refreshed Delen site went live at the beginning of September. The site has been given a fresh new look and feel and has been redesigned to better reflect our core products and the services that we provide. Take a look at the new and improved Delen.
Delen ICD-11 pages
As part of our wider Delen refresh, we have updated our ICD-11 pages. The main change you will notice is that the content has been organised around users rather than topics. We hope this will mean you have a better experience and can more quickly find the information that’s relevant to you.
The new ICD-11 pages include an FAQ database containing questions asked by the almost 400 members of the clinical coding community who responded to our recent ICD-11 questionnaire. We have also published an overview presentation setting out our approach to the early preparations for moving to ICD-11 and have created a downloadable interactive catalogue of ICD-11 Stakeholder Profiles and Use Cases. Over the coming weeks, we will publish more tailored content as well as links for you to sign up for interactive online ICD-11 engagement sessions.
We hope you find the content interesting and useful and we encourage you to contribute to the implementation work by reviewing our approach and our forthcoming draft implementation products, which will help ensure our plans are realistic.
SNOMED CT to ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Classification Maps for the 34.1.0 – 10 August 2022 content
There were no updates to the ICD-10 or OPCS-4.9 classification maps in the 34.1.0 – 10 August 2022 release.
The August 2022 SNOMED CT content will be mapped and included in the 35.0.0 - 05 October 2022 SNOMED CT UK Clinical Edition, which will also include the UK maps for SNOMED International Edition February 2022 to July 2022 releases..
