SNOMED CT is the clinical terminology chosen to replace Read codes within the NHS. Coded information that is currently received from GP systems is in Read codes; this will change to SNOMED CT. Implementation is scheduled in England from April 2018 in General Practice in a phased approach.
View
SNOMED CT is kept up to date to reflect current clinical requirements: this means new concepts and descriptions are added BUT descriptions and/or concepts can also be declared inactive. Descriptions of an active concept are made inactive if, for example, they are out-dated or are no longer acceptable. Concepts are made inactive if they are duplicates, ambiguous, erroneous or outdated.
